American Idol: Sanjaya Malakar loved everywhere but home?

Perhaps Sanjaya has become one of the most enduring sensations that have happened to American Idol. Although this is quite debatable, it appears as though he has captured the attention of so many media outlets and has undeniably suffered enough blight publicity. So, what’s the latest buzz surrounding the controversial American Idol contestant?

It appears that Sanjaya’s hometown, Federal Way, Washington, is rejecting the idea of having the city mandated with a Sanjaya Malakar Day. Unlike American Idol season three participant Jennifer Hudson, who was declared by the city of Chicago to have her own day in honor of her inspirational life story and achievements on March 6, 2007, Sanjaya won’t be getting his own day, at least not anytime soon.

Based on local news, the city’s officials are faced with more important issues and endeavors, which they would rather give priority to than dealing with Sanjaya’s declaration. Given this, many contemplate on the biased decision the city has surmised.

What’s the harm of having a Sanjaya day anyway? Sanjaya has a distinct inexplicable charisma, which attracts the crowd, whether in a positive or negative light. Having a Sanjaya day will most likely bring Federal Way to fame, apart from its sole attraction, its Wild Waves waterpark. It might even be a positive and lucrative break for the city to host some Sanjaya related event. Other cities might be even envious with a killer opportunity to take advantage of the Sanjaya’s massive fame.

Sanjaya, 17, is a native of Washington who studied at Seattle Waldorf School and Northshore Junior High. He also attended Shorecrest High School and Todd Beamer High School. He left school to pursue a career in music, subsequently landing a spot on American Idol season six. Prior to his inclusion on American Idol, he performed with the Hawaii Children's Theater group.
