It is well known that in the last years cholesterol occurs in more and more persons because of many factors that include improper diets, lack of physical activity or genetic problems. The substance called cholesterol is a product of the liver. This substance is a fatty that is produced in small amounts and it contributes to the proper activity of the organism. There are many roles that are specific for cholesterol. It is known that this substance helps to protect the blood cells from damage, by covering their superficial membrane. The human body also uses cholesterol in producing hormones such as testosterone and estrogen, in producing vitamin D or bile acids. Bile acids are very important because of their role in digesting fat. As we all know the human body requires a small amount of this substance fro sustaining its normal activity. When cholesterol is produced in excess the extra quantity deposits in different areas of the organism. It is not a soluble substance and that is why it deposits in paces such as the interior of the walls of arteries or soft tissues and organs leading to the blockage of the normal blood flow. In cases when cholesterol blocks the coronary arteries heart attack or other similar heart conditions may occur. It was proved that cholesterol is related to many factors such as age, gender or genetic heritage. Men are often affected by this problem and so are the persons that have passed 50 years. Obese people are also prone for high cholesterol levels. Other conditions might lead to cholesterol problems too. Beside the factors mentioned earlier we have to say that high levels of cholesterol are caused by inappropriate diets, no physical exercise, smoking or alcohol consumption. Persons with high cholesterol levels are advised to go for saturated fats and simple carbohydrates. They are also advised to quit smoking and drinking. It is also a good thing to remember that they should avoid eating fatty meals such as pork or poultry, organ meats such as heart, liver or kidneys, fat fairy products such as milk, cheese or butter, chocolate and also peanuts that are believed to caused the increasing of cholesterol levels. These advices should be followed even if they do not guarantee anything but the normal level of cholesterol. As we said before, as a sufferer you should remember to avoid smoking because is the major cause for later heart problems.
