Although UFC has gained sufficient fame in the United States, as well as other countries, its popularity did not shoot up overnight. Last year, UFC visibly had poor pay-per-view sales, not even comparable to WWE’s. But now, it seems that UFC is experiencing a remarkable surge in popularity, evident in its rising pay-per-view sales. While UFC’s pay-per-view sales is on the rise, its recent airing of Fight Night 9 on Spike TV was clearly a disaster, the lowest rated Fight Night ever broadcast on the cable network. In fact, a string of Fight Night broadcasts, from Fight Night 7 to 9, has resulted to a similar squat. It also seems like The Ultimate Fighter is absorbing the same kind of hard luck Fight Night has been experiencing. Despite earning a spot as the top show on cable, The Ultimate Fighter 5 has acquired quite a low rating compared to last year’s The Ultimate Fighter 4 and the preceding The Ultimate Fighter 3, which gained the most ratings. At any rate, hardcore fans are hoping for a great come back for The Ultimate Fighter 5 with the B.J. Penn-Jens Pulver match. Penn, a former UFC Welterweight Champion and lightweight contender, along with the finalist of the tournament, are set to fight Pulver, former UFC lightweight champion, at The Ultimate Finale, a televised MMA fight card that will air live at the completion of the series. UFC, a United States-based mixed martial arts organization based in Las Vegas, Nevada, showcases some of the best fighters of the world. Founded in 1993, the organization progressed and evolved into a reality series. It consists of several tournaments, which features various styles of brutal fighting with a limited number or rules. To catch the no holds barred fighting, watch UFC every Thursdays at 10 PM ET/PT on Spike TV.
